National Lawyers’ Committee Welcomes Five New Board Members from the Private Bar

(Washington, D.C.) – The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law announced Thursday that Lillian S. Hardy of Hogan Lovells US LLP; David Herrington of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP; Andrew LeGrand of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP; Ragan Naresh of Kirkland & Ellis LLP; and Shawn Naunton of Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, have been appointed to its advisory board of directors.
The appointments expand the national Lawyers’ Committee advisory board to 218 members, hailing from the nation’s leading private law firms, corporations, an academic institutions. These lawyers play an important role in the extensive Lawyers’ Committee pro bono network and offer resources and in-kind support to advance the organization’s mission.
“I am excited to welcome the first class of new board members to join since I assumed the leadership of the Lawyers’ Committee earlier this year. We are excited about the fresh perspectives and new energy they will bring to our organization and to the nation’s preeminent pro bono legal network,” said Damon Hewitt, president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. “The national Lawyers’ Committee is committed to exploring new ways to help make the promises of our democracy real. With these new additions to our board, we will be better poised to accelerate our work and deepen our impact.”
The new additions to the advisory board of directors are listed below:
- Lillian S. Hardy is a partner and member of the Board at Hogan Lovells US LLP, in Washington, D.C., where she heads the firm’s multidisciplinary, global crisis management practice, the HL Crisis Leadership Team. Lillian works with companies to develop and improve their compliance programs and enjoys teaching others how to lead through challenge. She has received awards from Global Investigations Review, The National Law Journal, Bloomberg Law, and Lawdragon among others.
- David Herrington is a partner at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, in New York, where his practice and experience spans a wide range of litigation, advisory and regulatory matters, with a focus on intellectual property disputes. David was part of a team at the firm that overturned a former Tennessee inmate’s death sentence and conviction. He was the recipient of the New York City Bar Association’s Norman Redlich Capital Defense Pro Bono Award.
- Andrew LeGrand is a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. Based in Dallas, Andrew has extensive experience in a broad range of complex commercial litigation including focusing on class actions and other high-stakes disputes. He maintains an active pro bono docket, including working on prisoner’s rights and other criminal justice issues. He was a recipient of the firm’s Frank Wheat Individual Pro Bono Award.
- Ragan Naresh is a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, in Washington, D.C., where he litigates complex civil disputes in federal courts, state courts, and arbitrations across the country, with a focus on cases in the energy, agriculture, and telecommunications sectors. Ragan maintains an active pro bono practice, including, in partnership with the Lawyers’ Committee, winning a precedent-setting judgment holding neo-Nazi defendants liable for hate crimes and harassment.
- Shawn Naunton is a partner in the New York office of Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, where he is an experienced litigator with a broad practice focused on complex civil and criminal litigation, ranging from representing victims of international terrorism to defending individuals against securities fraud charges. Shawn is the managing partner of the firm’s New York office. He was previously recognized as one of the Trial Lawyers of the Year by the Public Justice Foundation.
